History of Group -
Based in Glenamaddy, Co.Galway the Glenamaddy Players (originally called Playgroup 72) are an Amateur Dramatic Group founded nearly 30 years ago. This Website is dedicated to the members both past and present for their involvement and dedication to the Group and is a celebration of the groups achievements since its foundation in 1972.The website includes listings of the previous productions performed by the group, the latest production, photo galleries, history of the group and many more features. We would like to thank everybody for their contributions in generating this website and hope that you the viewer be you a current or past member or simply browsing, enjoy our compilation.To date there have been approximately 30 productions completed between 3 Act Plays and 1 Act Performances. During their many years on the Festival circuit the group have performed in various festivals ranging from Ballyshannon and Shercock in the North to Doonbeg, Scarriff and Ballyduff in the South. In addition they are noted for their appearances in the Connaught Festivals such as Claremorris, Claregalway and Tubbercurry.The group have qualified on a number of occasions for the All Ireland Finals, originally in 1985 with their production of "Big Maggie" and most recently with their productions of "The Communication Cord" in 2000 and "Eclipsed" in 2002. In 2013 after a long absence Glenamaddy Players qualified for the All-Ireland Finals in Rossmore, Co.Cork with their production of Moment by Deirdre Kinahan. This was followed in 2014 with the very highly successful "Agnes of God" which again reached the All-Ireland Finals in Claremorris winning four festivals on the circuit. As with 2013 there were numerous awards won on the festival circuit. In the Autumn of 2014 the Players staged "Rumors" by Neil Simon in the Town Hall Theatre, Glenamaddy with good crowds attending a highly entertaining show. Last year we saw the Players back on the circuit with "Stolen Child" which was directed again by Coman Keaveny. Once again the Players qualified for the All-Ireland. 2016 sees Glenamaddy Players again qualifying for the All-Ireland with brilliant interpretation of Marsha Norman's night Mother.
